Materials
Western Red Cedar

Timber Basswood

Installation Options
Hinged in a Frame
Traditional and elegant, hinged shutters in a frame are easy to open and close. Ideal for standard window sizes and regular access.
Sliding
Sliding shutters are perfect for large windows and doors, offering a sleek and space-saving solution. Ideal For Patio doors and wide openings.
Bi-Folding
Plantation shutters fold neatly to the side, (left, right or both) providing full access to the window or door area. Ideal For Large openings and where maximum access is needed.
Fixed Installation
Fixed shutters provide a permanent, stylish solution that enhances privacy and light control. Ideal For balconies and areas where shutter panels don’t need to be opened.
Design Options
D Mould
Blocks light from shining between shutter panels and stops panels from swinging both ways.
Frames
Most shutter panels are installed in the window reveal or as a face fit with either an L frame or a Z frame, depending on the opening. A shutter frame can be flat or decorative, there are many options available and we have most styles in our showroom.
Hinges
Either direct hinged or hinged within a frame we can install a variety of styles from a regular drop pin hinge to pivot hinges and hairline.
Tilt Controls
Most popular are the clear view tilt controls which are usually at the back of a shutter panel. Traditional tilt rods on the front of a shutter panel is stall available and we also have concealed tilt which is hidden within the frame.
Mid rails and Split Blades
After a certain height a single panel will require a mid-rail for strength. All blades within a panel can be split at a height to suit. You may have an area with 8 blades in the one panel, they can be split to open 4 at the top and 4 at the bottom which is ideal for privacy.

There are three main material types used for shutters at Shutters Direct Paddington:
1. Timber: Timber is the traditional choice of material for Plantation Shutters and have many advantages. Primarily, they are a lighter option to PVC and Aluminium so can span greater widths for larger panels. They are of course a natural material and suit houses that have a predominance of timber already present. They do have limitations, and generally speaking, aren’t as suited to areas with high moisture like bathrooms. High moisture or allowing shutters to get wet can cause timber to swell over time and can create hairline cracks in the paintwork. Options are basswood, paulownia or western red cedar.
2. Poly Resin: PVC or Poly Resin (several different names fall into this category) is a water resistant material, easy to clean and are ideal for wet areas such as bathrooms or kitchens. They also provide great insulation and are structurally strong, so they are a great choice for most shutter applications. Our poly resin shutters are painted the same way as timber, so they look almost identical to timber. All the shutters from Shutters Direct Paddington are painted with a water-based low VOC paint, are made from the highest quality composite materials, and have a 15 year manufacturer’s warranty.
3. Aluminum: Aluminum is one of the most durable materials for shutter construction and provides higher levels of security and excellent corrosion protection. They are suited to both internal and external purposes; however, they is particularly suited for external applications. Our aluminum Shutters at Paddington are supported by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty
