Where motorised blinds make sense
The obvious one is height. Clerestory windows, raked ceilings and double-height living rooms are out of reach, and a motor is the neatest way to use a blind you cannot touch. A long run of blinds across a wall of glass is another: one button moves them together, and they line up every time.
Plenty of people choose them for simpler reasons — no chains hanging down the side of the window, and blinds that close themselves in the afternoon when nobody is home.
Remote, timer or app
Depending on the system, motorised blinds can be run from a handheld remote, a wall switch, a timer that raises and lowers them at set times, or an app on your phone. Some systems connect to a hub for smart-home control. What is available varies by product, so we will tell you exactly what the one we quote can do rather than promise a feature list.
Powering them
Motors can be hard-wired, battery-operated, rechargeable or solar-powered, depending on the system. Hard-wired suits new builds and renovations where an electrician is on site; battery and rechargeable motors suit existing homes where running cable is not practical; solar can suit windows with enough sun on the panel. We will talk through which suits your house.
Which blinds can be motorised?
Motorisation is available across many roller blind ranges, including blockout, light-filtering and dual blinds, but not every fabric, size and system combination. We confirm compatibility for your specific blinds before we quote, so what you order is what you get.

Common questions
Can all roller blinds be motorised?
Not all. Motorisation is available across many roller blind ranges, and we confirm compatibility for your fabric, size and system before we quote.
Do motorised blinds need an electrician?
Hard-wired motors do. Battery, rechargeable and solar options, where the system offers them, can avoid running new cable.
Can motorised blinds work from my phone?
Some systems offer app control or connect to a smart-home hub. It depends on the system, so we will tell you what the one we quote supports.
Can I add a motor to my existing blinds?
Sometimes, depending on the blind and the system. Send us details or ask at the measure and we will tell you whether it is practical.
