Why people motorise their blinds

Some windows are simply out of reach — clerestories, raked ceilings, double-height rooms. Some rooms have so many blinds that doing them one by one is a chore. And some people just want the blinds to close themselves on a hot afternoon when nobody is home.

A motor solves all three, and removes the chains from the side of the window as a bonus.

How you control them

Depending on the system, motorised blinds can run from a handheld remote, a wall switch, a timer, or an app on your phone. Some systems connect to a hub for smart-home control, and a group of blinds can be set to move together. Features vary between products, so we tell you exactly what the system we quote does rather than promise a list.

How they are powered

Motors can be hard-wired, battery-operated, rechargeable or solar-powered, depending on the system. Hard-wired suits new builds and renovations where an electrician is on site. Battery and rechargeable motors suit existing homes where running new cable is not practical. Solar can suit windows with enough sun on the panel.

Which blinds can be motorised?

Motorisation is available across many product ranges — including roller, dual, honeycomb and some venetian blinds — but not every product, fabric and size. We confirm compatibility for each window at the measure.

Common questions

Can every blind be motorised?

No. Motorisation is available across many product ranges, and we confirm compatibility for your specific blinds before we quote.

Do motorised blinds work with smart-home systems?

Some systems connect to a hub for smart-home control. It depends on the system, so we tell you what the one we quote supports.

Do I need an electrician?

For hard-wired motors, yes. Battery, rechargeable and solar options, where available, can avoid running cable.

Can I control several blinds together?

Depending on the system, blinds can be grouped to move together from one remote, timer or app.
