The material that survives outside
An outdoor opening is a different problem to a window. It is bigger, it takes direct sun and driving rain, and whatever goes in front of it is exposed year round. Timber and polyresin are not built for that; powder-coated aluminium is.
What our customers actually buy it for is usable space. A deck that was unusable in the westerly sun becomes somewhere you can sit, and the same shutters open right up when the weather turns good. It is the closest thing we fit to an extra room.
How they are configured outside
Bi-fold and sliding panels do most of the work on decks and patios, because a hinged panel swinging into a walkway or a dining setting is a nuisance. Fixed panels suit the sections you never need to open — a side return, or the part of a balcony that only needs shade.
We work all of that out at the measure, standing in the space: which way the weather comes from, where the furniture goes, and how you move through it. That is the part you cannot do from a plan.
Aluminium indoors
It is less common, but it happens — a room that takes brutal afternoon sun, or an opening where durability matters more than the softness of a timber grain. Aluminium is available for interior openings where the application calls for it.
For most indoor windows we would still point you at polyresin or a timber. If you are not sure which, the comparison on the plantation shutters page is the short version, and we will talk it through properly when we measure.

Common questions
Are aluminium shutters a security product?
No. These are weather and privacy shutters, not security screens or roller shutters. If security is what you are after, that is a different product and not one we specialise in.
How do they handle salt air?
Powder-coated aluminium copes with Brisbane conditions well. For a property close to the water we will talk through the finish and what maintenance it needs before you commit — exposure varies a lot street to street.
Can I use them indoors?
Yes, where the application suits it. For most interior windows polyresin or a timber gives a better result, and we will say so.
What do aluminium shutters cost in Brisbane?
It depends on the size of the opening, the configuration and the finish, so we quote rather than publish a price list. The quote is itemised, includes GST and installation for installed jobs, and there is no obligation attached to it.
