Polyresin / PVC plantation shutters

The shutter we fit in bathrooms, ensuites, kitchens and laundries. Polyresin handles steam and splashes in a way timber never will, wipes clean with a damp cloth, and holds its finish in the rooms that are hardest on a window covering.

Why polyresin wins the wet rooms

Bathrooms are the hardest test a window covering gets in Brisbane. Steam sits in the room, the window is often above a bath or beside a shower, and anything made of timber eventually shows it — swelling at the joins, then a panel that no longer closes flush.

Polyresin does not care. It is moulded rather than milled, the finish goes all the way through the surface, and a damp cloth takes off whatever the room throws at it. That is why it is the material we recommend for ensuites, kitchens and laundries without much hesitation.

It is not only a bathroom shutter

Plenty of whole-home projects run polyresin right through, and it is a sensible choice when you want one consistent painted finish across every room rather than a mix of timber and paint. It suits bedrooms and living rooms perfectly well.

The trade-off is weight. A polyresin panel is heavier than the equivalent timber one, so on a very wide opening we either split the run into more panels or move to timber — usually Western Red Cedar — to keep the panels light enough to hang properly for the long term.

Living with them

Dust with a soft cloth or a vacuum brush head. Marks come off with warm water and a little mild detergent. No solvents, and nothing abrasive — the finish is durable, not indestructible.

The louvres tilt to trade light against privacy, which in a bathroom usually means angling them up: light in from above, no sightline in from the street or the neighbour. It is the thing people notice most after a bathroom install.

Common questions

Do PVC shutters go yellow?

It is the question we are asked most about the material. We only fit ranges we have seen hold their colour in Queensland light, and we will show you the actual product and its finish at the quote rather than ask you to take our word for it.

Can they go in a shower recess?

Polyresin copes with the humidity of a bathroom comfortably, but a window inside a shower recess takes direct water rather than steam. We would look at that opening on site before recommending anything.

Are polyresin shutters heavier than timber?

Yes. On standard windows it makes no practical difference. On a very wide opening it does, which is why we either add panels or move to a timber for those spans.

What colours can I get?

The range runs through whites and neutrals in a satin finish. We bring the current colour samples to the measure, because whites shift a lot against tile, stone and painted walls.
